These memebers pf Pakistans transgender
community are gathered for iftar during Ramadan.
Iftar, the meal eaten at sunset after a day
of fasting, is usually enjoyed among family.
But many transgender people experience
rejection by their relatives.
For them, Ramadan can often be a tough and lonely time.
Shazia: In, Ramadan, everyone wants to have
iftar and suheer with their own family.
We miss our families and want to enjoy iftar with them.
Any person would have same wish.
Our feelings as a transgender are
a little different from what other people feel.
We miss our families during these days
because that is when people get love.
They join iftar parties and social gatherings.
No one invites us to these parties.
So on these kinds of occasions, we miss our family more.
Rani Khan is preparing food to give to
poor familis so they can break their fast.
Khan had been dancing and begging
for money on the streets to get by.
She later started an Islamic seminary
in a slum area of Islamabad.
Rani Khan: We have difficulties in all departments in Pakistan.
We face problems and difficulties in
police stations, hospital and in public places.
I will add that there is no place where we have facilities,
we are facing torture everywhere.
Pakistan ' s government officially recognises
the transgender community as a 'third gender ' .
The remarkable move meant the community
was allowed to obtain identity cards.
Those ID cards are needed for getting a driving
licence and for opening bank accounts.
However, transgender people of all faiths
are still often publicy bullied and humiliated.
