Description:


South Korea said on December 30, 2022, that it will require travellers from China to undergo mandatory Covid-19 testing on arrival, joining the United States, Japan and other countries in adopting new border control measures amid a surge in cases in the country. According to officials, starting January 2, people arriving from China will have to take a PCR test upon arrival and beginning January 5, they will be required to submit a negative result for a PCR test taken within 48 hours, or a rapid antigen test taken within 24 hours of departure.

Jee Young Mee: From January 5th, all South Korean and foreign travellers need to submit a negative PCR test result within 48 hours or rapid antigen test by an expert within 24 hours.

 

PCR test upon arrival for travellers from China will also be implemented starting January 2.

Seoul will also restrict the issuance of short-term visas to Chinese citizens and stop increasing flights from China for now.

 

China began rolling back its stringent zero- Covid policies in early December.

 

The rule easing has led to a nationwide surge in cases promting countries to impose on travellers from China

 

Han Duck-soo: We need to urgently prepare for any domestic ripple effects following China`s easing of quarantine rules. We will prepare to take stronger measures in case the situation get worse, if we see a rapid increase of infections from new arrivals or appearance of new variants.

 

The South Korean government has also asked its citizens to minimise travel to China
